Hi ya’ll! Happy Monday! I’m back this week with one of the last books that I finished in May: How to Date Your Dragon by Molly Harper. This book was just a “for shits and giggles” read for me, no uber-sophisticated plot here, but boy did I love this book! I may have enjoyed it because of the simplicity of the book!
Here’s the blurb:
Anthropologist Jillian Ramsay's career has taken a turn south.
Concerned that technology is about to chase mythological creatures out into the open (how long can Sasquatch stay hidden from Google maps?), the League for Interspecies Cooperation is sending Jillian to Louisiana on a fact-finding mission. While the League hopes to hold on to secrecy for a little bit longer, they're preparing for the worst in terms of human reactions. They need a plan, so they look to Mystic Bayou, a tiny town hidden in the swamp where humans and supernatural residents have been living in harmony for generations. Mermaids and gator shifters swim in the bayou. Spirit bottles light the front porches after twilight. Dragons light the fires under crayfish pots.
Jillian's first assignment for the League could be her last. Mystic Bayou is wary of outsiders, and she has difficulty getting locals to talk to her. And she can't get the gruff town sheriff, Bael Boone, off of her back or out of her mind. Bael is the finest male specimen she's seen in a long time, even though he might not be human. Soon their flirtation is hotter than a dragon's breath, which Bael just might turn out to be…
This book was a hoot! It had the magic, it had the amazing characters, it had the murder mystery, and it had the spice! All in a simple easy-to-follow plot! I ended up listening to this book on audible and shout out to the narrators! The accents were fantastic and made listening to the book infinitely better! The book takes place in Louisiana, in a small town near a bayou. It’s relatively easy to imagine the accents from there and boy are they amazing in the audible audiobook! It is a whole family read (for those who’ve had the birds-and-the-bees talk and above ages) with some spicy scenes, and this book inspired my family to have a pie bake-off! The amount of pie I ate while listening to this book was insane. Once you start the book, you’ll understand why! Then you have the characters and they carry this book, in my opinion. The book is centered around them, and they are amazing, so the book is amazing! So, don’t worry if you meet the characters and want to read about them more in the beginning because as the proverb goes, “ask and you shall receive”! The plot has all of the nice, pull-you-out-of-a-slump elements, such as murder mystery, romance, and comedy! Boy, does that romance get heated a couple of times throughout the book! Anywho, if you’re looking for an easy, relaxing, funny read, or something to pull you out of a slump, I recommend How to Date Your Dragon to you!
Happy Reading!
Renee
